- Read the Introduction and the section on Dense stellar systems in P. Hut and J. Makino's ambitious work-in-progress, The Art of Computational Science.
- Read (quickly) Secs. 1-3 of J. Makino et al., A 1.349 Tflops simulation of black holes in a galactic center on GRAPE-6. See also the Grape Project.
- Browse the tutorial on MPI Performance Topics; read the section on persistent communication.
